Fantasy Advice For Colts Fans
Alright everybody, I know how this goes. I get bit by the bug every year when I start preparing for fantasy football season and begin to look at which players I want to draft and that’s when the bug’s venom starts to seep into my brain telling me that every Colts player looks like a great pick.
Well unfortunately, that’s just not the case. Don’t get me wrong, if you had an entire fantasy roster comprised of only one team, I don’t know which team would be better than the Colts to have it be comprised of, but that’s just not a good approach to take when drafting your team. So as a personal favor to you, I am going to break down which Colts players you want to draft, which ones you don’t and which ones wouldn’t be bad picks if they happened to still be on the board a round or two later than what you would have expected.
First off let’s address the fact that there should only be ten Colts -in your standard fantasy league- that you should even be considering drafting: Peyton Manning, Joseph Addai, Donald Brown, Reggie Wayne, Pierre Garcon, Anthony Gonzalez, Austin Collie, Dallas Clark, Adam Vinatieri and the Colts defense, which is sometimes the Colts defense AND special teams, depending on where you choose to play.
I realize that it’s nearly too late for this post as most drafts have already been completed, but if you’re like me and still have two drafts between now and Thursday then this could be helpful. The analysis after the jump: (more…)
Final 53-Man Roster Prediction
Contrary to the title, this is actually my 61-man prediction, because I’m also going to take a shot at naming the practice squad members. My last attempt at guessing the regular season roster was about a month ago, a week or so after training camp had started but things have changed quite a bit since then. We hadn’t seen a single preseason game at that point and now we’re less than 24 hours from those final cuts actually being made. Check it out after the jump: (more…)
What To Look For: Bengals at Colts
For football fans this game isn’t going to be much of anything to watch, even for a preseason game. However, for Colts fans there are some interesting things to keep an eye out for. It’s unlikely that many of the starters -especially the big names- will even see the field. Guess how many total pass attempts Peyton Manning has had in the final preseason games from the last five years. None. Zero, zilch, nada. So don’t expect him to do much more than hold a clipboard tonight.
Instead we will get to watch Curtis Painter and Tom Brandstater do their dead level best to try and not be horrible. It seems to be a foregone conclusion that Painter will win the backup job and that Brandstater will be relegated to the practice squad. Though while these two will be at the helm of the offense, they are not one of the key things for a Colts fan to look out for tonight.
I put together a list of the top three position battles to watch for tonight, in an attempt to get a clue as to who will be making the final 53-man roster (final cuts must be made by Saturday), who will be kept as a practice squad member, and who will be left out in the cold. I hope this makes tonight’s game interesting less boring.
If I have failed in that, you can take heart in knowing that tonight the football season officially begins (go Hawaii) unless you’re only an NFL fan, in which case tonight marks the one-week countdown to the opening regular season game when the Saints host the Vikings. And if you’re only a Colts fan then you still have 10 days before your football season starts. But hey, at least you have the Colts Chronicle to keep you entertained in the meantime.
I’m listing these in the order that they most interest me, not in order of importance. Either way let’s get down to it. My list starts after the jump: (more…)
I’m Excited
Hello everyone! I just wanted to put up a quick self-introduction post to get the ball rolling and provide you all with a bit of information about me so that you know who’s work you will be reading. First off, I am a huge Colts fan and am very excited to have the opportunity to be the Lead Writer for Colts Chronicle. I have been a Colts fan since I was about six years old and have loved watching the building process of Bill Polian picking this franchise up off the floor of back-to-back three-win seasons and developing it into a team that has had one of the greatest runs of success football has ever seen. Colts place rookie CB Kevin Thomas on IR
The Indianapolis Colts have placed rookie cornerback Kevin Thomas on injured reserve, according to Aaron Wilson of the National Football Post. He had surgery to repair a torn ACL that occurred during the team’s rookie minicamp in May.
The former USC standout was selected by the Colts in the third-round (94th overall) of the 2010 NFL Draft. He finished his college career with 88 tackles, three interceptions, and two forced fumbles.
By placing Thomas on IR, the Colts have trimmed the roster down to 75 players—which all teams are required to do on Tuesday.
