A Colts/Cowboys Super Bowl?

Will we see a Colts/Cowboys Super Bowl matchup this season?

Well, Rick Gosselin of the Dallas Morning News thinks so.

Gosselin, one of the country’s top pro football writers, has placed the Colts and Cowboys at the top of his preseason power rankings and picked them to meet               in the Super Bowl.

“On paper, the Colts are a better team than the squad that finished 16-3 a year ago and took a lead into the fourth quarter of the Super Bowl. That makes the Colts the favorite to win it all. So put Indianapolis atop the Dallas Morning News’ annual preseason rankings,” Rick writes.

“And Dallas, the defending NFC East champions, finished second in the NFL in offense last season and allowed the fewest points in the NFC on defense. So pencil in a Colts/Cowboys Super Bowl in February,” Gosselin concludes.

Rick Gosselin has a VERY strong track record as far as NFL related predictions go.

Let’s hope that Rick is right with this pick!

Writers Picking Colts To Win AFC South

In what has become a regular occurrence at this time of the year, pro football writers everywhere are picking the defending AFC champion Colts to repeat as AFC South champions.

As you can see, the latest to do so is Mark Gaughan, an outstanding football writer who covers the NFL, AFC, and Buffalo Bills for the Buffalo News.

Mark doesn’t think that the AFC South’s other teams (the Jacksonville Jaguars, Houston Texans, and Tennessee Titans) have improved themselves enough over the offseason to overtake the Colts in the AFC South this year.

“The AFC South saw little free-agency movement this year, which leaves AFC champion Indianapolis as the favorite once again,” Mark writes.

I agree with that analysis, of course.

The Colts have won six AFC South titles in the last seven years, while winning twelve games or more in each of those seven seasons, and it’s likely that both trends will  continue this season.

Life is definitely sweet for the Colts these days.

And the nation’s pro football writers know it!

Colts Rank High In Position Rankings

Yahoo Sports pro football writer Jason Cole is currently in the process of releasing his annual NFL Position Rankings, and the Colts are off to a great start so far, receiving impressive rankings at four of the five positions that Jason has covered thus far,   including the quarterback, wide receiver, offensive line, and defensive line           positions.

As you can see from the defensive line rankings above and the links to the other position rankings, Jason has the Colts ranked as having the league’s best wide receivers, second best quarterback, fourth best defensive line, and ninth best          offensive line.

That’s pretty impressive stuff.

Any team that has a Top Five rated quarterback, wide receiving corps, and defensive line, as well as a Top Ten ranked offensive line, is likely to be a major player in the Super Bowl Championship chase again this season.

And that’s great news for Colts fans!

Sanders Feeling Good Coming Into 2010

Colts safety Bob Sanders is feeling good these days, and is pleased with his current health status, according to Colts head coach Jim Caldwell.

Sanders, the NFL’s 2007 Defensive Player of the Year, missed the beginning of the 2009 season with a knee injury and played in just two games last season before suffering a season-ending biceps injury, but successfully participated in the Colts’ OTA’s and mandatory mini-camp recently.

“Bob is feeling good again now, and he’s feeling good about where he’s at physically, so he has been able to relax and play the game the way that he’s capable of,” Colts coach Jim Caldwell said recently.

“When Bob is healthy, he’s as good at what he does as any player in the league. We are expecting big things from him in 2010,” Caldwell added.

Sounds like great news Colts fans!

CBS Picks Manning As The NFL’s Best

Colts quarterback Peyton Manning, a four-time NFL MVP, is still the best player in the National Football League, at least according to CBS’ senior pro football writer Pete Prisco, who has just released his annual rankings of the league’s Top 50 Players.

And the Colts’ star quarterback is not the only Colts player in Prisco’s Top 50.

As you can see, Colts’ stars Dwight Freeney (10th), Reggie Wayne (23rd), and Dallas Clark (43rd) also cracked Prisco’s Top 50 Players list, while Pro Bowl safety Antoine Bethea is included in the “just missed” category.

With four players on the list, the Colts had more players ranked in the league’s Top 50 than any other NFL team, with the exception of the Minnesota Vikings, who had five players named to the Top 50.

And you just can’t beat having the NFL’s best player on your team!
