The Indianapolis Colts have placed rookie cornerback Kevin Thomas on injured reserve, according to Aaron Wilson of the National Football Post. He had surgery to repair a torn ACL that occurred during the team’s rookie minicamp in May.
The former USC standout was selected by the Colts in the third-round (94th overall) of the 2010 NFL Draft. He finished his college career with 88 tackles, three interceptions, and two forced fumbles.
By placing Thomas on IR, the Colts have trimmed the roster down to 75 players—which all teams are required to do on Tuesday.

Colts’ Pierre Garcon appears to be the favorite for No. 2 wideout
[picappgallerysingle id="7838349"]
Prior to the start of the training camp, it seemed like the Indianapolis Colts would have an interesting battle for the No. 2 spot at wide receiver between Pierre Garcon and Anthony Gonzalez. With only one preseason game remaining, it turns out there’s not really much of a battle as Garcon appears to have already won the spot. (more…)
Colts WR Taj Smith trying to make his case for a roster spot
[picappgallerysingle id="6032492"]
It may have just been a preseason game against most of the backups, but Indianapolis Colts wide receiver Taj Smith made a case for himself on the roster after his performance against the Buffalo Bills on Thursday night.
Smith finished with three receptions for 91 yards and one touchdown—a 43-yard pass from backup quarterback Curtis Painter. This comes less than a week after he finished with three receptions for just 15 yards during the Colts first preseason game against the San Francisco 49ers.
This will be Smith’s third season with the Colts, but he’s played on the practice squad both years. Smith originally signed with the Green Bay Packers as a rookie free agent out of Syracuse in 2008, but signed with Indy after he was waived.

Former Colts QB Jim Sorgi gets roughed up in Giants debut; scheduled for MRI on Thursday
[picappgallerysingle id="9562490"]
After six seasons backing up Peyton Manning, former Indianapolis Colts quarterback Jim Sorgi will now backup his brother Eli this upcoming season as a member of the New York Giants.
Sorgi looked impressive during his Giants debut on Monday night against the New York Jets, completing 8 of 15 passes for 146 yards and two touchdowns—both to Victor Cruz. Unfortunately, he’s scheduled to undergo a MRI on Thursday on his injured shoulder and ribs after being roughed up by the Jets’ defense.
As Manning’s backup in Indy, Sorgi played in 16 games—most of which came from the meaningless games following a playoff clinch. He may no longer be with the Colts, but fans can’t help but wish for the best for their former backup quarterback.
