Some Quick Notes

There has been a decent bit of talk about whether or not the Mile High altitude will affect Peyton Manning’s performance. This seems ridiculous to me. Let’s take a look at Peyton’s last game in Denver.

It was October 29, 2006 and Peyton had 32 completions for 345 yards, three touchdowns and no picks on 39 attempts which gave him a passer rating of 129.2. In other words it was a very impressive game.

I’m not worried about the altitude having any sort of impact on how well Peyton plays tomorrow. Add into the mix that the Broncos top two corners have been unable to practice for most of the week and that they have one of the worst run defenses in the league and it looks like the Colts will roll.

Reviewing Week 2 – Helots Revolt

In case you were wondering, yes the title is a lame historical reference to ancient Greece – specifically Sparta. Helots were the bottom rung of the ladder in Spartan society. I’m calling the first two weeks of the 2010 NFL season a Helot Revolt because at the bottom of the NFL last year were teams like the Rams, Lions, Buccaneers, and Chiefs.

I’m going to look at the “Helots” of the league that have jumped out at me with how well they’ve played and later in the week I’m also going to address the “Kings” that seem to have struggled during through their first two games. There are a few other teams I will address that have shown more success so far than I would have expected but let’s start with the bottom dwellers of the NFL that I mentioned above. (more…)

2011 NFL Mock Draft II (09/22)

It’s been a couple weeks since my last mock draft so I thought it was time to put up a new one.

For those of you that aren’t familiar with my mock drafts, until we get at least a few weeks into the season I determine the selection order of my mock drafts by using the current Vegas odds for each team’s season. Before we get started I should also point out that the Raiders traded their 2011 first round pick to the Patriots for Richard Seymour – that really paid off.

I’ll only be doing one-round mock drafts until I feel it makes sense to make them any longer, because let’s be honest any length mock draft is rather ridiculous to be putting up this early anyhow. Either way, check it out after the jump: (more…)

Anthony Gonzalez out 4-6 Weeks

In all likelihood this means that Gonzalez won’t be back until after the team’s week 7 bye week. I’m not too concerned. We made it all the way to the Super Bowl without him last year. We can certainly get by without him for another six weeks.
